JAAS is an architecture practice based in Barcelona. Founded in 1982, the office is led by Josep M. Julià, Albert Clèries, Jordi Gorgues and Manuel Julià, working across public and private commissions in architecture, heritage, urban design and landscape.

We conceive architecture as an infrastructure for everyday life: open, permeable and adaptable frameworks designed to accommodate changing uses over time. Beyond their physical qualities, our projects encourage civic appropriation, allowing users to actively shape their environment through collective forms of use.

We understand architecture as a reversible and evolving process, rooted in place and attentive to existing conditions. Our projects engage the existing built fabric through strategies of adaptive reuse, reprogramming and transformation rather than replacement, enabling spaces to evolve while retaining the material and cultural intelligence embedded within them.

Sustainability is approached through the lifecycle of materials, combining construction systems rooted in tradition with passive environmental strategies and principles of circular architecture. Our projects seek to reduce energy demand while prioritising low-impact, carbon-conscious material systems.

Over the years, the practice has received several awards, including the Premi Ciutat de Barcelona (1991), the Bonaplata Award (2009 and 2019), the Urban Land Institute Award for Excellence (2010), the Hispalyt Sustainability Award (2023), and the Premi FAD Ciutat i Paisatge (2024). Its work has also been recognised through multiple selections for the FAD and AHI Awards.
