The Tarragona Open Penitentiary Centre is a new civic building located at the northern edge of the Francolí River, where the city gives way to a predominantly residential landscape. Conceived as an abstract and luminous volume, the project deliberately avoids the institutional image traditionally associated with correctional facilities and instead seeks to integrate naturally into the neighbourhood. Through its measured scale, domestic character and carefully landscaped setting, the building promotes dignity, rehabilitation and social reintegration. More than a secure facility, it is conceived as a piece of civic infrastructure that reinforces the continuity between the institution, the city and everyday life.
